Game or app image: Schedule a Gmail email and check its sending time

Before you begin

An email completed late at night can wait for the next working day. Decide when the recipient needs it and check the time zone used for scheduling. Scheduling delivery is different from setting a reminder to answer incoming mail.

Check the profile picture in Gmail to confirm the active account. Work and personal accounts can hold different messages and settings. Start with one message you recognize before applying a change to many emails. For work correspondence, inspect recipients, attachments and the conversation context so that organizing the inbox does not disrupt communication you still need.

Follow these steps

Follow this sequence in the Android app.

  1. Open Gmail and compose the message. Enter its recipients, subject, text and attachments, then read it through before opening the sending options so an incomplete draft is not scheduled.
  2. In the compose screen, open More at the top right and choose Schedule send. Select a suggested time or choose a date and time appropriate for the recipient.
  3. Open Gmail's menu and select Scheduled. Inspect the message and its listed time. This confirms that it is waiting for delivery rather than remaining an ordinary unfinished draft.
  4. To change the text or timing, open the scheduled message and cancel its sending. Edit the returned draft, schedule it again, then check the replacement time before leaving the app.

Check the result

Delivery can occur a few minutes after the chosen time. Allow a margin for important deadlines and inspect Sent afterward. Cancelling returns a message to Drafts; finishing an edit does not automatically put it back on its former schedule.
