Before you begin
History helps you retrieve words and sentences translated earlier. Check whether you are using a Google account or only local device history. The distinction matters when changing phones or looking for a result created on another device.
Check the source and target languages before using a translation. Short text without context can have several meanings, while names, addresses and technical terms may not need translating. Use a complete sentence where possible. Compare numbers and units with the original, and seek clarification when the result will guide an important action or could easily cause a misunderstanding.
Follow these steps
Follow this sequence in the Android app.
- Open Translate and confirm the active account. On the home screen, swipe down or use Account and History to view the translations currently available within the application.
- Locate the intended sentence and reopen it to inspect the language pair. Compare the original context before reusing the result, because similar wording can carry a different meaning in another situation.
- For a fuller history search, open Settings and Manage activity. Use the activity page's search field to find a particular word or phrase among translations that have been saved.
- For synchronization, check that the device is online, the account is signed in and Web & App Activity is enabled according to your preference. Use Refresh in history when appropriate.
Check the result
Newly synchronized cloud entries can take several hours to appear. When signed out, the app shows only on-device history. Do not delete history as your first troubleshooting step when the issue may simply be pending synchronization or a different active account.
