Before you begin

Trim unnecessary footage so the main action is easy to follow. Keep a copy of the original video before editing, especially when you may need a longer version later. Check both picture and sound at the new boundaries.

Follow these steps

Prepare a short video you own to try the TikTok steps. Work from the correct account and check photo or camera permissions if your media does not appear. Listen to the original audio before adding effects or text.

  1. Create a TikTok video from the clip you want to edit. Review the original sequence and identify the first and last moments you actually need.
  2. Open the available clip-editing or adjustment controls. Move the beginning and ending handles carefully rather than removing several important moments in one large change.
  3. Play the shortened clip from start to finish. Listen for cut-off words and inspect any text or action that crosses the new beginning or ending.
  4. Continue to the posting screen only after the trimmed result works. Check the caption and audience, or save a draft if you need another review.

Check the result

Shorter is useful only when the video still makes sense. Restore a little context if speech or movement begins abruptly. The draft and the original recording serve different purposes; preserve the original when you may want to edit it again.

Editing and audience options can vary by account age, region and app version. Drafts are not permanent backups. Keep the original video separately before changing devices or clearing app data.
