Before you begin
Page translation can help you read information in a less familiar language. Choose the correct target language before interpreting the result. Compare product names, technical terms and important numbers with the original so the translated wording does not change your understanding.
Check the page address before using Chrome's menus, particularly when several tabs have similar titles. Browser controls affect the open page, while buttons within that page may perform actions on the website itself. For a trial, use a page without a pending transaction or unsaved form. Keep track of the starting tab so you can compare results without losing work.
Follow these steps
Follow this sequence in the Android app.
- Open the page you want to translate. If Chrome displays a translation notification, choose its target language and wait for the page contents to change before reading important sections.
- If the target language is unsuitable, open the notification's settings and choose More languages. Select the intended language, then inspect the opening paragraph to confirm that the result has changed.
- If no notification appears, open Chrome's More menu and choose Translate. Try reloading if it fails; the page's content or language may not be available for translation.
- For a short passage, highlight the text and use the available Translate action. Read the surrounding context, especially where the same word can have different meanings in different subjects.
Check the result
Browser translation is not an official edition written by the website's operator. A language change does not change an account's region or service prices. Before an important action, compare dates, numbers and conditions with the original text again.
