Before you begin
A message that needs attention later does not have to remain in the inbox all day. Snooze temporarily removes it and brings it back at the selected time. Choose a realistic follow-up time so important correspondence does not disappear from your routine.
Check the profile picture in Gmail to confirm the active account. Work and personal accounts can hold different messages and settings. Start with one message you recognize before applying a change to many emails. For work correspondence, inspect recipients, attachments and the conversation context so that organizing the inbox does not disrupt communication you still need.
Follow these steps
Follow this sequence in the Android app.
- Open the email and read the sender's request and deadline. Decide when you will have enough information or time to answer properly rather than choosing a time at random.
- Open the message's More menu and choose Snooze. Select a suitable day and time, leaving a margin before the sender's deadline to prepare your reply or the required attachment.
- Open Gmail's menu and select Snoozed to find the message before it returns. Searching for in:snoozed also helps identify mail that is still waiting in the snoozed collection.
- Inspect Gmail's notification settings if you expect an alert when the time arrives. Snoozing a message and enabling notifications are separate actions; do not depend on an alert you have not allowed.
Check the result
At the chosen time the message returns to the top of the inbox. Review it and take the needed action instead of repeatedly delaying it. With notifications disabled, check the inbox directly because no reminder notification will be delivered.
