Game or app image: Scan a paper document to PDF with Google Drive on Android

Before you begin

Google Drive’s scanner can turn paper documents into files that are easier to keep organized. Prepare a flat surface and even lighting so shadows do not obscure text. Review every captured page before saving a multi-page document.

Follow these steps

Check the Google Drive account and destination folder before saving or sharing files. Give documents distinctive names, such as document type and activity date. Open the saved result to confirm it is the version you need.

  1. Open Google Drive on the intended account and use the scan option. Place the document flat and frame the page so its important edges remain visible.
  2. Capture the page and review the crop, orientation and readability. Retake an unclear image rather than saving a page whose small text cannot be read.
  3. Add the other pages if the document contains more than one sheet. Review their order and remove accidental duplicate captures before finishing the scan.
  4. Save the result as a PDF with a descriptive filename in the intended folder. Open the saved file and inspect all pages before sharing it.

Check the result

A successful upload does not prove that the scan is readable. Enlarge small print, check signatures and confirm that no page is missing. Review sharing permissions before sending a document containing personal or financial details.

File access depends on the owner's permissions, active account and any organization policy for work or school accounts. Saving a link does not automatically grant access. Check the recipient's access before relying on a document for an important activity.
