Purpose and preparation

In turn-based strategy, expansion should be considered alongside the need to defend your territory. Use a single turn to practise reading the map. Separate urgent decisions from expansion that can wait, so your resources are not spread around without a clear purpose.

Suggested steps

Work through the tutorial and watch the balance between income and unit costs. Expansion needs supporting defences, otherwise the gains from one turn can quickly disappear.

  1. Review the territory you already own and identify the area that most needs attention before choosing a direction for expansion.
  2. Compare possible actions with your available resources. Do not assume that every area you could capture needs to be taken during the same turn.
  3. Choose one clear objective for that turn, then review the changed situation before ending it.
  4. On the next turn, consider whether the decision improved your position or added territory that is difficult to defend.

Check the result before continuing

Evaluate a decision by its effects over several turns, rather than only the amount of territory gained from one action. If the plan fails, note any threats you missed. Change one decision-making habit before trying several different strategies at once.
