Before you begin
Some websites use text that is uncomfortable to read on a phone. Adjust that site's zoom instead of immediately changing every page. Start with a small increase and check whether the website's controls remain accessible at the new size.
Check the page address before using Chrome's menus, particularly when several tabs have similar titles. Browser controls affect the open page, while buttons within that page may perform actions on the website itself. For a trial, use a page without a pending transaction or unsaved form. Keep track of the starting tab so you can compare results without losing work.
Follow these steps
Follow this sequence in the Android app.
- Open Chrome's menu, then Settings and Accessibility. Enable Show zoom option in main menu so the size control is available while you are viewing an individual website.
- Return to the site with small text. Open More, choose Zoom and move its slider gradually while watching both the paragraph text and the surrounding page controls.
- Read several parts of the page after adjusting the size. Check tables, sign-in controls and navigation so that larger text does not make an important action difficult to locate.
- Open another website to compare its appearance. The chosen level is saved for the particular site; use Default zoom only when your intention is to change all web pages.
Check the result
If a page prevents zooming, Accessibility includes Force enable zoom. After enabling it, inspect the actual layout again. A comfortable size varies between phones, so judge the readability of the contents rather than aiming for a particular percentage.
