Choose who can see your WhatsApp Status

Before you begin

Choose the audience before sharing a WhatsApp Status, especially for family photos or work information. Everyone saved in your contacts is not necessarily someone you want to receive a particular update. Review the intended group first.

Follow these steps

Use the WhatsApp account you use every day. Menu names follow the app language; Setelan and Settings refer to the same area. Read the on-screen explanation before approving changes, especially when conversations contain important documents.

1. Open WhatsApp Settings, Privacy and Status. Read the available audience choices and check the current selection before creating your next update.
2. For a small audience, choose the option for sharing only with selected contacts. Review each selected name, including similar names and old numbers.
3. Return to Updates and prepare a new status. Check the photo, text and audience before sending so private details are not shared accidentally.
4. Review the status after sharing. Check the audience again for future updates when your contact list or the purpose of sharing has changed.

Check the result

Changing a privacy setting cannot undo information someone has already seen. Delete a mistaken status and review the replacement before posting it. Recipients may save what they see, so avoid account codes and confidential documents.

Backups, media on the phone and messages visible to recipients serve different purposes. Changing one setting does not recall files someone else has already saved. Never share your account verification code.
