Add and reorder stops in a Google Maps route
Multiple stops help organize a trip, but the order matters. Follow the preparation, steps and checks in this Android guide.
Before you begin
Multiple stops help organize a trip, but the order matters. Check the final destination and transport mode before adding intermediate places. Some route modes or areas may not offer the same stop controls.
Follow these steps
Use the intended Google Maps account and check location permission when you need your current position. Match the place name, address and map marker before saving it or starting a journey; different places can share similar names.
- Search for your destination in Google Maps, choose Directions and confirm the starting point. Select a supported travel mode appropriate to the journey.
- Open the route options and look for Add stop. Enter the intermediate place, checking its full address so a similarly named location is not selected.
- Reorder the stops to match the trip you intend. Inspect the map after each change rather than relying only on the names in the stop list.
- Review the full route and estimated time before starting. Let a passenger adjust plans during travel or stop safely before changing the route yourself.
Check the result
An estimated arrival time is not a promise. Traffic, opening hours and road access can change. Confirm that each stop remains useful before setting off, and follow local signs or instructions when they differ from the suggested route.
Map information and road conditions can change. Check local directions while travelling and configure the app before driving. Some features require internet, and offline-map availability differs between regions.
